Bugles
2 in this category...One of the simplest brass instruments, the bugle is basically a small horn with no valves. All pitch control is done by adjusting the player's mouthpiece, or embouchure. The bugle is limited to notes within that harmonic series since there is no other mechanism for controlling pitch on the bugle.
The bugle is used primarily in drum and bugle corps, as well as in the military, where the bugle has grown beyond its simple origins, gaining valves. The
cornet is sometimes mistakenly referred to as a valved bugle.
