| Author: Mark (03/26/2008) I am a very active person. I do a lot of traveling and working at night. When I bought it, I was looking for a watch that looked professional, kept reliable and acurate time, and was very sturdy (I have a short history of breaking watches). I also do a lot of camping, hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities. I have owned this watch for 6 months, and I am very pleased.
The glow from the Tritium tubes is excellent at night. It is dim enough not to light up a room or cause attention. Actually, it is even hard to see from 6-10 ft away. But when on your wrist it is perfectly visible, and time is just as easy to read as in daylight. The watch is rated at 200 m water resistantance, which gives convidence to jump in a pool or a lake without caring. I like most of all that Tritium is NOT harmful. I am a Physics Instrucutor. Tritium is a Hydrogen Molecule with 2 extra Neutrons. It emits a low energy electron inside the tube. When it hits the the tube, The green/red Zinc Sulfide coating glows. There is a small chance the electron will escape the tube, but 0% chance it will be harmful to you. Even if the tube were right up aginst your skin, No radiated particles would harm you! Watchmakers used to use radium, which emitted harmful alpha particles and lased for thousands of years! Tritum lasts effectively only 25 years. There is a VERY small amount of it in each tube. The amount of glow decreases by 50% every 8.5 years (half-life = 12.32 years)....so it lasts for a while AND is completely safe.
Two things. It is also worth mentioning the the face color (blue) is darker than it appears on most pictures I've found online, which I kind of like. Also, the second hand & the bezel marker are also marked with phosphorescent paint. PAID $157 |
