Brass
25 in this category...Brass instruments are musical instruments whose tone is produced by using the lips to produce vibrations as the player blows into a tubular resonator, more commonly known as the mouthpiece.
Modern brass instruments are generally played by manipulating sets of valves or slides to change the effective length of the tubing. Many classical style
natural brass instruments, such as the
bugle or the
trumpet, require the notes to be played along a harmonic series. Another classical form of the brass instrument are fingered instruments such as the
flute which are covered by fingers, or finger-operated keypads, in a way similar to that of a
woodwind instrument.
Natural brass instruments are often played for some ceremonial functions and period performances.
