Description
Take control of this aircraft / helicopter for Flight Simulator 2004 and Flight Simulator X!
The V-22 Osprey is a multi-mission, military tilt rotor aircraft with both a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability. It is designed to perform conventional helicopter missions with the long-range, high-speed cruise performance of a turboprop aircraft. Its unique and distinctive tilt-rotors is designed as a fast troop transport and field support aircraft with helicopter-like vertical lift but also with ability to operate as an STOL with rolling takeoff and landing. Following a vertical takeoff, its two engines can rotate 90 degrees for horizontal flight.
Although it was originally conceived in the late 1980's the Osprey has had a long development cycle. It only recently entered service with the US Marines in early 2007. Used mainly as a transport aircraft, it is has a fly by wire cockpit and is also fitted with a single 7.62 mm machine gun.
The V-22 was developed by Bell Helicopter, which manufactures it in partnership with Boeing Helicopters. The initial operators are the United States Marine Corps and Air Force. The FAA classifies the Osprey as a model of powered lift aircraft.
The V-22 comes in 3 authentic liveries:
• United States Air Force.
• United States Marines.
• United States Marines Desert Camo.
The V-22 Osprey is available together for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and Flight Simulator X.
